AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & test of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. About the role

We are establishing ahigh-productivity site with full end-to-end responsibility for product generations— not a satellite, not a support unit, but a true pillar of AIXTRON’s global network. To make this vision reality, we are looking for a strong, entrepreneurial leader to build and shape ourOperations Engineering organization from the ground up. This is more than a management position. This is a mandate to build, drive, and transform.

As Manager of our Core Engineering, you will be responsible for a mechanical and electrical engineering team at our Malaysian site and deploy them across technology and development projects. You will have theownership fordevelopments, not just supportfunctionsand you will be at the core of making this happen. You are structured, decisive, and forward-looking — and hands-on when needed.

 

Responsibilities

Strategic & Technical Leadership 

  • Shape system architecture decisions across mechanical and electrical domains 
  • Drive innovation in high-precision MOCVD equipment and subsystems 
  • Ensure seamless integration at mechanical and electrical interfaces 
  • Oversee mechanical and electrical design activities (e.g., vacuum systems, welded assemblies, control cabinets, EPLAN schematics) 

 

Build a High-Performance Engineering Organization 

  • Recruit, coach, andretaintop-tier engineering talent 
  • Develop succession plans and technical capability frameworks 
  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement 
  • Adopt and ensure compliance withcompany widetechnology and development processes into the Malaysian site 

 
End-to-EndProductResponsibility 

  • Take ownership of engineering for newdevelopments 
  • Drive quality and risk management (FMEA, Root Cause Analysis) 
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, CE, and SEMI standards 
  • Strengthen ERP integration (e.g., SAP) for data-driven decision making 
  • Steer mid-term capacity planning, budgets, and cost efficiency 
     

Global & Cross-FunctionalCollaboration 

  • Work closely with Germany and UK sites as true equals in the global network 
  • Foster strong supplier collaboration and partnership models 
  • Align cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, operations, and global leadership 
  • Lead transformation initiatives with clarity and confidence 

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • University degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field 
  • More than 10 years of professional experience 
  • 5–10 years of engineering leadership experience 
  • Strong systems thinking across mechanical and electrical disciplines 
  • Experience in coating equipment or complex high-tech systems 
  • Proven budget responsibility and resource planning capability 
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confident decision-making under uncertainty 
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills 
  • Fluent in English and Bahasa MalaysiaMandarin is an advantage.

 

Working Conditions

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
  • Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
