AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.

About the role

The role of Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer is a core architect of the mechanical and electromechanical backbone behind cutting-edge semiconductor equipment. This is a highimpact, handson position where you shape complex architectures, engineer precision interfaces, and push the limits of what these systems can do.

You’ll drive robust, high-performance designs across mechanical structures, vacuum assemblies, power pathways, and control interfaces—ensuring every module you touch is manufacturable, serviceable, and built for longterm reliability. As a key technical owner, you’ll influence systemlevel architecture decisions, champion design excellence, and collaborate with crossfunctional experts in manufacturing, service, compliance, and engineering to bring breakthrough hardware to life.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize complex mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies and multi-interface architectures
  • Develop robust tolerance concepts and geometric dimensioning strategies
  • Integrate vacuum systems, power distribution elements, sensors, actuators and motion components
  • Define scalable control architecture and programmable logic controller topology for modular systems
  • Lead system-level trade-offs, manage requirements and ensure interface alignment
  • Drive Design for Manufacturing and cost-optimized solutions across the product lifecycle
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis and support risk assessments such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Manage technical changes within Product Lifecycle Management systems and mitigate cross-module impacts
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, drawings and specifications in English

Qualifications & Skills

  • University degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in electro-mechanical system design
  • Strong expertise in 3D Computer Aided Design tools (e.g. Creo) and Product Lifecycle Management systems
  • Solid knowledge of electro-mechanical architecture, materials engineering and vacuum technology
  • Experience with power distribution, automation topology and motion systems
  • Structured problem-solving skills and analytical mindset
  • Familiarity with ISO, CE and SEMI standards
  • Proven ownership, cross-functional collaboration and learning agility
  • Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken)

Working Conditions

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
  • Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
