AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. About the role

The Operations Quality Manager is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving AIXTRON Malaysia’s Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001 standards and group-wide processes. This role ensures full compliance with regulatory, certification, and customer requirements while driving operational excellence across the organization.

The position oversees quality governance across incoming goods inspection, manufacturing, product releases, field quality, and repairs. It plays a key leadership role in audit management, non-conformance resolution, KPI monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with the Managing Director of Operations and cross-functional teams, the role ensures adherence to internal controls and promotes a strong culture of quality and compliance throughout the business.



Responsibilities

  • Set up of AIXTRON Malaysia’s quality processes and documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and take the business through various external audits, including ISO (eg. re-certification, surveillance) as well as customer audits
    • Maintain and optimise the current quality system and wherever possible, align with groupwide processes. Oversee adherence and provide inputs into processes eg. leadership, product development, manufacturing etc.
    • Working with the Managing Director of Operations, raise awareness for compliance with laws, regulations and established standards/certifications. Support with defining and maintaining company objectives/key performance indicators with regular reviews of the measures and pushing for continuous improvement
    • Lead internal audits of all departments/audit schedule, and coach managers to ensure compliance
    • Responsible for the document management system for the business
  • Incoming goods Inspection
    • Manage the inspection area, staff and its tools to ensure timely and accurate inspection of incoming goods
    • Responsible for delivery of first sample reports (whether inhouse or with suppliers) and their analysis. Defining inspection process for AIXTRON Malaysia eg. sampling, records, serial numbers in SAP etc
    • Responsible for the returns process and processing blocked stock
  • Product quality
    • Responsible for the quality gates/releases on the shop floor for our products, in conjunction with our production department
    • Support production department with respect to manufacturing processes and their industrialisation/optimisation, for both standard and prototype equipment projects (first offs, that have not been manufactured before in the business).
    • Management, analysis and actioning of non-conformances and re-work/other inefficiencies arising due to quality issues
    • Support customer service with quality issues observed in the field with analysis of field service notifications, and provision of root cause analyses and solutions
    • Responsible for the Repairs process
  • Responsible for Quality related metrics, including but not limited to product warranty costs, manufacturing rework hours, internal and supplier non-conformances
  • Supervision of own direct reports and team, including, budget control, resource planning, recruiting, appraisals, training, development planning, inductions, etc
  • Meeting the requirements of Internal Controls

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Extensive experience in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Manufacturing background focused on new product introduction
  • Project management experience essential
  • Microsoft Office capable (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in vacuum systems, pneumatics, gas systems, automation an advantage
  • Individual needs to be resourceful, adaptable and must be able to problem solve
  • Experience of improving quality systems within an industrial environment
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with SAP is a plus



Working Conditions

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
  • Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
