AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia
We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.
About the role
Join us in building complex, high-performance MOCVD production systems at the cutting edge of special-purpose machinery engineering. In this hands-on role, you will assemble mechanical components and sub-assemblies using engineering drawings, parts lists and structured work instructions -- contributing directly to the delivery of advanced, precision-engineered systems.
Your work will include the installation of vacuum, cooling and pneumatic systems, implementing customer-specific and design modifications, and supporting specialist stainless-steel pipe fabrication and orbital/manual TIG welding. You will verify kitted parts against drawings and BOMs, ensure issued components are free from visible defects, and check your own work against drawings after each operation to guarantee build quality .
You will take a proactive approach to continuous improvement -- identifying opportunities to enhance the build process, supporting self-validation practices, and helping maintain a safe, organized and high-performing production environment.
If you enjoy precision mechanical work, building complex systems from engineering drawings and seeing advanced technology come to life -- this is the role for you.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical assembly of complex MOCVD production systems in a special-purpose machinery engineering environment
- Assembly of mechanical components and sub-assemblies using engineering drawings, work instructions and parts lists/BOMs
- Installation of vacuum, cooling and pneumatic systems
- Implementation of customer-specific and design-related modifications
- Specialist stainless-steel (SS) pipe fabrication and orbital / manual TIG welding (training available)
- Verification of kitted (pre-picked) parts against drawings and BOMs prior to assembly
- Self-inspection of completed assemblies against drawings -- confirm completeness, check for defects and ensure quality standards are met
- Use of precision measurement and hand tools (torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers) for alignment, fitting and quality checks
- Proactive approach to improvements of the build process and self-validation
- Complete standard and special assembly documentation for all build activities
- Provide technical assistance to other operational functions
- Maintain the assembly area and equipment in production to ensure a safe, clean and organized environment, including adherence to cleanroom protocols and PPE requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma / Advanced Diploma / SKM (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Precision Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Vocational training or certification as an industrial mechanic, mechanical fitter, pipe fitter, precision mechanic or equivalent (e.g. SKM Level 3/4)
- Strong mechanical assembly background with hands-on experience building complex equipment or machinery
- 2-4 years of relevant hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, pipe fitting or equipment manufacturing in a production environment is preferred
- Fresh graduates with strong mechanical foundations and a proactive attitude will also be considered
- Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, assembly instructions, P&IDs and parts lists/BOMs
- Understanding of vacuum, pneumatic and/or cooling systems
- Familiarity with precision measurement tools (torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers)
- Vacuum leak testing experience (preferable, but not essential -- training provided)
- Orbital / hand TIG welding experience is an advantage (training available)
- Experience with pipe fabrication, fitting and bending (stainless steel) is a plus
- Experience in semiconductor equipment manufacturing, high-tech machinery or cleanroom environments is a strong advantage
