AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia
We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.
About the role
We are looking for Engineers of varying experience to join our team in Malaysia.
As part of our Engineering team, you will develop and design mechanical systems and functions for next-generation semiconductor systems. You will lead the development of complex mechanical architectures that significantly shape the performance and reliability of our systems.
You will take ownership of cross-functional challenges, drive critical system-level decisions and trade-offs, and shape the technical direction across disciplines. You will ensure compliance, enhance performance, and embed robustness throughout the entire lifecycle — from concept through production.
With strong systems thinking and sound engineering judgment, you will identify risks across interfaces at an early stage, confidently navigate uncertainty, and guide high-impact technical decisions that move our technology forward.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Design of mechanical system architectures, define interfaces and manage clear, testable requirements
- Leads FEM interpretation for complex structures across multiple regions, performs sensitivity and correlation studies, resolves critical design issues, and adapts load case definitions to region-specific parameters (e.g. Seismic). Apply regional safety factors and ensure compliance with international engineering and safety standards
- Develop robust tolerance concepts and geometric dimensioning strategies for large-scale assemblies
- Conduct structured problem solving and risk assessments to prevent integration and field failures
- Drive design for manufacturing, cost optimization and distortion control initiatives
- Manage technical documentation, configuration changes, engineering changes and lifecycle impacts
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and align cross-functional stakeholders
- Technical management of new manufacturing suppliers from prototyping to series production.
- Integrate exhaust, vacuum, heating and temperature control components according to requirements into already developed products and projects
- Create and review-ready technical drawings, specifications and change project and product documentation
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 2–10 years of relevant experience
- Strong expertise in mechanical design of structures for complex equipment (e.g. vacuum technology, frame, cladding, cooling automation, etc.)
- Experience in finite element simulation and interpretation
- Strong experience with common manufacturing methods in equipment design
- Solid knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance stack-up in multi-interface systems and GD&T
- Experience in requirements engineering, risk assessment and structured change management
- Advanced proficiency in 3D computer-aided design and product lifecycle management systems
- Advantage to be proficient in CREO/Pro-E and ERP systems such as SAP
- Strong analytical mindset
- Proven ability to lead technical decisions, manage risks and align cross-functional teams
- Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken)
Working Conditions
- Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
- Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
- Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites
